A Generalized Approach for Power Quality Disturbances Recognition Based on Kalman Filter

This paper presents a new automatic detection and classification approach of power quality (PQ) problems using Kalman filter. filter is used as an estimator to calculate the fundamental frequency harmonic components amplitudes voltage or current signals. Then instantaneous total distortion (iTHD) energy are calculated. For each half cycle processed signal, five decision quantities calculated based on iTHD these three consecutive maximum values iTHD, standard deviation difference between distorted signal its component. Decision rules applied identify classify PQ events in this captured signal. The proposed tested single combined that generated MATLAB with help mathematical models conformity IEEE-1159. performance assessed more than 100 dataset every event results show accuracy 98.8 for noiseless high-level noise, respectively. In addition, validated through comparisons other classification. Several practical by lab experiments validate approach. simulation experimental efficient robust can be implemented design monitoring device.
